James “Dodzy” Dodds was a friend and inspiration to thousands of mountain bikers. He was a talented rider, racer, skills coach, trail builder, bike designer and all round nice guy. His life was tragically cut short in September 2012.

Dodzy was one of the joint architects of the trail network in Wairoa Gorge and the Dodzy Memorial Enduro celebrates his vision, talent and contribution to New Zealand mountain biking.

Allzone, the new air conditioning company on the block in Christchurch, wanted an engaging brand to help them stand apart from others in an already highly saturated industry. Given the name of the business, the new logo/identity had to reflect its attributes.

We devised a logo that was suggestive both of the nature of the business' multiple services and products as well as the concept of air conditioning systems that permeate all zones of a specific controlled area.

Clean blues in this two colour brand palette convey a sense of technical efficiency and cool professionalism.

Terra Viva combines a love for plants with all things food related, now a rising star in Woolston, Christchurch offering truly authentic artisan baked goods. We needed to unify the three disparate brands under one parent brand, bringing to life the newest of the three businesses. Spinifex took the existing Terra Viva logo and applied distinctive typography and designed symbolic marks for each separate entity.

We then set to work designing a mural, brand collateral and producing photography that would see the new bakery rise quickly to fame in an area in desperate need of an authentic artisan bakery.

FullRevs is a modern business consultancy company that provides business solutions to small and large businesses in New Zealand and abroad. Their main thrust is to get businesses operating to their fullest potential by working with them in ensuring all aspects of sound business practice are adopted. FullRevs approached Spinifex with no name and no idea which direction their new brand would take. After settling on a name, it was pedal to the metal and as we created a brand to support it. Then we had a whole lot of fun writing copy for the brand collateral. 

St Saviour's Christchurch wanted a new brand that reflected the modern, dynamic nature of their church - something that would emanate the values they uphold, such as love, energy, passion and truth. The only specific requirements of the design brief was that red must be the central colour and the logo must incorporate the cross.

We've been working with Porters - "zee closest ski area to Christchurch!" - for a number of years now, helping to establish a strong brand presence which promotes a fun, friendly commercial ski area that's within easy reach of New Zealand's second largest city.

Selwyn District Council have recognised the opportunity that the Selwyn District presents to business owners - that both the natural landscape provides, as well as the business hub that is developing in the community of Rolleston. SDC wanted to communicate this to businessmen and women, entrepreneurs and investors who might be interested in getting a finger in the pie. We produced a printed booklet that presented all the benefits that the region offers.

The land within the Selwyn District's boundaries is, sensational. The vastness of the Canterbury Plains stretches north, south and west from Christchurch City, meeting the hills of Banks Peninsula to the south, and the pristine rivers and alpine peaks to the west. During all four seasons of the year, this area provides recreational opportunities to the surrounding populations of Canterbury, the West Coast and beyond. 

Selwyn District Council needed a modern new look for their 'Sensational Selwyn' brand - something that would allude to the natural offerings of the area - clean air and rivers descending over a green and healthy landscape. We designed the logo and other brand elements, then helped with promoting the EXPO, an initiative to attract more people to the area.

Sandi MacRae Landscapes specialise in transforming ordinary outoor spaces in Christchurch into living landscapes. We worked with this concept and produced a logo that describes Sandi's landscapes as living, multi-layered, artistic spaces that work in harmony with the surrounding land and space. This then fed into the resulting brand identity.

As luck would have it, The Sleepout Company established themselves shortly before the 2011 earthquakes in Christchurch, which meant that they were able to fulfil the high demand for temporary dwellings that required fast turnarounds. When we were approached about the branding project, these stylishly designed units hadn't even made it to the production line yet, meaning that we couldn't rely on the use of beautiful photography as a basis for the brand imagery. Instead we utilised the owl's nocturnal nature within a fun, illustrative approach to develop the brand.

Broken River Ski Area, located in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, boasts some of New Zealand's best off-piste, soft-snow skiing and snowboarding. They offer fantastic terrain for all levels of skiers and boarders, on-mountain accommodation, uncrowded powder basins and chutes, and the best part - a friendly and inviting club atmosphere that's unrivalled throughout the entire country. There's nowhere quite like Broken River.

Another Summer Sale for Silvermoon. How do you depict a classic kiwi summer? Draw a beach, throw in a lazy bare footed beach dweller, a beach ball and a thieving seagull with a liking for fish 'n' chips.

Hanmer Springs Ski Area, run by the Amuri Ski Club, wanted a new logo and website to bring them into the 21st Century. The Ram's head was an essential part of their history that had to be included in the design.

Illustration and design for another Silvermoon Winter Sale. Brief: Keep it cool!

The 'Fiddy Fiddy Club' (AKA 50/50) (50/50: verb: to land with half your mountain bike (eg the front wheel) on the landing of a jump and the other half (eg the back wheel) short of the landing, against the vertical wall of the landing, causing pain and embarrassment, as well as applause from other Fiddy Fiddy Club members). These loose units approached Spinifex to design a logo for their new claim to fame. We were happy to oblige, only after witnessing what it was all about.

Silvermoon's Summer Sale campaigns call for a fresh and original approach each year. Without the aid of model shots - beautiful models draped in all manner of bling - we were asked to convey a sense of the kiwi summer, whilst in some way representing Silvermoon's product, jewellery.

As part of its annual tshirt offering, we designed this logo to complement the other styles in the range, hinting at the fluidity of the beautiful sport of alpine skiing. And snowboarding.

Peak Safety are a bunch of outdoor enthusiasts who live, work and play in the thick of New Zealand's outdoor wonderland. They wanted to advertise the nature of their business - safety in the outdoors - on a tshirt, via a fun approach that wasn't too cheesy or obvious. We set to work creating a fun logo for a tshirt by taking New Zealand's iconic Tiki and throwing him down an experts only mountain bike track. Ouch.

After Adrenalin Forest quickly became the new high wire sensation to hit New Zealand, its owner, a high flying Frenchman, required a whizzy new brand to work for his rapidly growing adventure tourism business. After a bit of shaky R&D, we produced a brand that represents the core values of the company: excitement, safety and low environmental impact (green). From humble beginnings in Christchurch, Adrenalin Forest is now flying all over the country.
